An 83-ton car ferry capsized off the southwestern coast of South Korea on December 30th, 2024, leaving five people missing. The Korea Coast Guard rescued two passengers but continues to search for the remaining five.
The incident occurred around 6:35 p.m. local time in waters west of Seosan. The ferry was reportedly carrying seven people when it capsized. Strong tidal currents in the area are hampering rescue efforts.
The Korea Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the capsizing.
