On 1 January 2026, a 76-year-old American passenger aboard the cruise vessel Viking Sky was medically evacuated while the ship sailed off Mexico's Pacific coast near the state of Michoacán. The passenger had sustained a serious left femur fracture following a fall onboard. A coordinated rescue operation involving the Mexican Navy and regional maritime rescue authorities resulted in her safe transfer to shore and onward hospital care.
