Introduction
On September 24, 2025, three individuals—two passengers and one crew member—were medically evacuated from Carnival Adventure while the ship lay at anchor off Tangalooma, Moreton Bay. The operation was coordinated by Marine Rescue Queensland’s Bribie Island unit in partnership with the Queensland Ambulance Service, ensuring the patients were transferred safely ashore for urgent care.

Details of the Medevac

Call for Assistance:

  • At 11:36 a.m., Bribie Island Radio Operator Denny Freeman received a request from the Queensland Ambulance Service to carry paramedics to the vessel.
  • The call specified that multiple patients required evacuation to the mainland for treatment.

Rescue Operation:

  • The rescue craft Bribie 1 was dispatched under calm seas with a five-person MRQ crew, led by Commercial Coxswain Ian Grimes and supported by two ambulance officers.
  • Upon boarding Carnival Adventure, medical staff triaged three patients:
    • One passenger requiring stretcher handling
    • One passenger confined to a wheelchair
    • One injured crew member in need of shore-based medical care
  • Two family members and luggage were also transferred alongside the patients.

Transfer and Medical Support:

  • The transfer concluded successfully, with Bribie 1 docking at MRQ Bribie headquarters at 2:34 p.m.
  • Two ambulances awaited the evacuees, who were taken directly to medical facilities for further treatment.
  • By 3:45 p.m., the MRQ team had refuelled, cleaned, and stood down their vessel.

Voyage Context:

  • The Carnival Adventure (108,865 GT, capacity for 2,636 passengers and 1,100 crew) was on a 4-day Tangalooma–Moreton Island cruise, round-trip from Sydney.
  • Despite the medevac, the cruise continued its itinerary after the operation was complete.
