What happened
On Friday, 1 March 2024, a Zenith CH 750 Cruzer amateur-built aircraft registered VH-8CT experienced a serious accident during takeoff at Bunbury Airport in Western Australia. The aircraft, which had been constructed by Brett William Turner, came to rest at the runway's end following the loss of control. The sole pilot on board sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital in critical condition.
At approximately 14:45 local time, the aircraft departed the runway during the takeoff phase. Emergency services responded immediately, providing medical assistance on the tarmac before the pilot was transported by helicopter to Royal Perth Hospital for urgent treatment.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) was notified of the occurrence and is investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
