What happened
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, a Piper PA-28-181 Archer III registered VH-VDX and operated by Basair Aviation College was involved in a stall and wing strike incident during a training flight at Brisbane-Archerfield Airport, Queensland. At approximately 2:00 pm local time, the aircraft experienced an aerodynamic stall shortly before its intended landing on runway 10L.
The student pilot was conducting a routine training flight from Brisbane-Archerfield Airport when the stall occurred during the final approach phase. Following the stall, the aircraft's left wing struck the ground, and the nose gear collapsed as the aircraft came to rest between runway 10L and taxiway Alpha, facing the opposite direction from its approach. The sole occupant, the student pilot, was uninjured and able to exit the aircraft without assistance.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has been notified of the occurrence and is reviewing the incident to determine the exact cause and to evaluate training and operational protocols at the flight school.
