What happened
On Sunday, 22 February 2026, a Saab 340B twin-engine turboprop registered VH-RXE and operated by Rex Airlines was conducting a scheduled passenger service from Griffith Airport to Sydney-Kingsford Smith International Airport when the flight crew detected an electrical system fault affecting the right side of the aircraft.
At approximately 19:00 local time, while the aircraft was in cruise, the crew observed abnormal operation indications from the No. 2 engine. In response, the flight crew shut down the No. 2 engine in-flight and diverted the aircraft to Parkes Airport. No fatalities were reported among the occupants.
The aircraft landed safely at Parkes, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) was notified of the occurrence. The event has been classified as a System/Component Failure or Malfunction (Non-Powerplant) incident.
