**During a landing attempt at Cessnock Airport, a Piper PA-28-181 Archer II veered off the runway, colliding with a fence. The pilot sustained serious injuries and was transported to John Hunter Hospital. The other occupant was uninjured and declined treatment. The aircraft suffered substantial damage. The incident has been reported to the Accident Transport Safety Board for assessment, and airport operations are continuing.**
