What happened
On Thursday, 29 August 2024, a Piper PA-28-181 Archer II registered VH-KLU and operated by Vectra Holdings Pty Ltd, trading as Basair Aviation College, was involved in a landing accident at Cessnock Airport, New South Wales. At approximately 12:15 pm local time, the aircraft veered off the runway during a landing attempt and collided with a fence.
The aircraft was conducting a private flight from Bankstown Airport to Cessnock Airport with two occupants on board. During the final landing phase, the Archer II departed the runway surface and struck a boundary fence, sustaining substantial damage to its structure.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) was notified of the occurrence and commenced assessment of the incident.
