Circumstances:
Wave Air was operating the Gippsland GA-8 Airvan into Lindeman Island. During landing on soft and wet ground, the wheels slid on the runway surface.
The pilot applied full power to conduct a go-around. The aircraft became airborne after the end of the runway and the landing gear contacted a tree, resulting in substantial damage.
Following the occurrence, the aircraft was flown back to Shute Harbour with reduced performance. The runway condition at Lindeman Island was reported as being assessed as unsuitable for continued operations. The ATSB issued a preliminary report for investigation AO-2026-065.
