What happened
On Monday, 14 January 2024, a Tecnam P92-TD Tail Dragger registered 24-8357 and operated as a private aircraft crashed near Dugandan, south of Boonah, Queensland. The aircraft was returning to Boonah Airport when it came down in a field opposite the entrance of the Boonah Golf Club at approximately 11:57 am local time. Both occupants, a 69-year-old man and an 82-year-old man, were fatally injured in the accident.
The ultralight aircraft was on approach to Boonah Airport, its departure and intended destination, when the accident occurred during the final phase of flight. The circumstances leading to the loss of control and descent into the field have not yet been detailed in available reports.
The aircraft sustained substantial damage and was written off. Emergency services and Queensland Police responded to the scene immediately following the crash. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) was notified of the fatal occurrence and has commenced its investigation into the accident.
