What happened

Incident Overview

On Monday, June 20, 2022, a registered golf buggy rolled on Whitsunday Boulevard on Hamilton Island, Queensland, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old female passenger from New South Wales. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30pm local time when the driver attempted a U-turn at the intersection with Coral Sea Avenue.

Queensland Police attended the scene and launched a comprehensive investigation. The male driver, aged 30 and also from New South Wales, was not physically injured in the incident.

Queensland Police attended the scene following the rollover incident. Emergency services responded to the critical injury report, though the passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit officers conducted an extensive investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Following their investigation, the 30-year-old driver was charged with driving without due care and attention causing death, wearing of approved seatbelt by driver, wearing of approved seatbelt by passenger, and using a mobile phone. He was scheduled to appear before Proserpine Magistrates Court on December 5, 2022.
