Incident Overview
In the early hours of Sunday, September 15, 2024, a tragic accident occurred near the Queensland and New South Wales northwest border. An SUV carrying three people rolled down an embankment and plunged into Carwal Creek, resulting in two fatalities.

Details of the Crash
Around 1:15 AM, the SUV veered off Morialta Road, south of Mungindi in Queensland, and became submerged in the creek. A 23-year-old woman, one of the occupants, was rescued by friends and a local property owner. She was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.  

Tragically, the bodies of a man and a woman, both in their 20s, were recovered from the submerged vehicle around 12 PM on Sunday. Their identities have yet to be formally confirmed.

Investigation and Next Steps
Crash Investigators are actively examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
