Serious traffic crash, Sunshine Coast

What happened

Incident Overview

On Tuesday, 10 July 2024, a serious four-vehicle collision occurred on Walter Hay Drive at Doonan on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. A black Holden Rodeo travelling southbound crossed the centre line and struck a black Audi S3 head-on, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving two additional vehicles and resulting in serious injuries to two drivers.

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit attended the scene. The driver of the Holden was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of a Ford Ranger involved in the secondary collision was transported by road ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The collision occurred on Walter Hay Drive at Doonan, Sunshine Coast, at approximately 6:00pm on Tuesday, 10 July 2024.

Emergency Response

Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Police attended the scene. The driver of the Holden Rodeo was airlifted to hospital by air ambulance due to the severity of injuries sustained. The driver of the Ford Ranger was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital by road ambulance.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is leading the investigation into the collision. Initial investigations indicate the black Holden Rodeo was travelling southbound on Walter Hay Drive when it crossed the centre line and collided head-on with the northbound Audi S3. The impact caused the Audi to veer onto the south side of the road, where it struck the white Hyundai Palisade. The Holden continued on the incorrect side of the road before colliding with the black Ford Ranger. Investigations are continuing.
