On Friday, 28 June 2024, a serious two-vehicle collision occurred on the Bruce Highway near Raglan in central Queensland, between Rockhampton and Gladstone. A 26-year-old man driving a Mitsubishi Lancer collided with a truck, resulting in critical injuries and significant disruption to both road and rail services.

The impact was severe enough to push the truck onto nearby railway tracks, causing disruptions to rail services in both directions. Queensland Police and emergency services attended the scene immediately, and the Bruce Highway was closed in both directions for several hours while response and investigation efforts were undertaken.

Community Impact

Emergency Response

Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene immediately following the collision. The 26-year-old driver was transported to Rockhampton Hospital in critical condition, while the 19-year-old passenger was also conveyed to hospital for treatment of stomach pain. The truck driver received treatment for back injuries sustained in the impact.

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is leading the investigation into the cause of the collision. Investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the impact and the subsequent displacement of the truck onto the railway tracks. The investigation is ongoing.
