Crash Description

The police 4WD and the truck collided head-on, causing the truck to overturn and the police car to veer off the road. The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles and leaving the police officer trapped inside the police car.

Injuries

The police officer, a senior constable in his 50s, sustained life-threatening injuries to his head, chest, abdomen, legs, and arms. He was extricated from the vehicle and treated at the scene before being airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Ipswich Hospital in stable condition.

Emergency Response

Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and a rescue helicopter, attended the scene. The highway was closed in both directions to allow for the emergency response and investigation.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Road Closure and Diversions

The Cunningham Highway was closed in both directions near the intersection of Warrill View Peak Crossing Road for several hours following the crash. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes or delay their travel.
