Helensvale E-Scooter Crash: Teen Boy in Critical Condition After Accident

What happened

Incident Overview

On Monday, 29 July 2024, a 13-year-old boy was critically injured in an e-scooter accident at the intersection of Latrobe Avenue and Bowen Court in Helensvale, Gold Coast. A 20-year-old woman riding with him also sustained injuries in the incident.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics attended the scene at approximately 9:15 am. The teenage boy was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in critical condition with life-threatening head injuries, while the young woman was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.

Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman Ken Hall noted that the pair lost control of the e-scooter while descending a hill. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. It is unclear whether either rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
