What happened

Incident Overview

On Monday, December 23, 2024, a fatal traffic crash occurred on New England Highway at the intersection of Kingaroy-Cooyar Road near Cooyar, Queensland. A silver Toyota Rav4 travelling eastbound on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road sideswiped a grey Subaru Outback travelling in the opposite direction, after which the Rav4 continued on and crashed into a tree before rolling. The driver of the Rav4, a 66-year-old man from Torquay, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 2:30pm local time. Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit attended and is leading the investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

The collision occurred on New England Highway at the intersection of Kingaroy-Cooyar Road near Cooyar at approximately 2:30pm on Monday, December 23, 2024.

Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after 2:30pm on Monday afternoon. Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended the collision site.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Investigations are continuing to determine the full sequence of events that led to the collision.
