Fatal traffic crash, Cloncurry

What happened

Incident Overview

On Friday, February 17, 2023, a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred on the Barkly Highway between Mount Isa and Cloncurry, Queensland. A vehicle carrying four teenage occupants left the roadway just before 11:30pm, resulting in the death of the 17-year-old male driver and critical injuries to a female passenger.

Queensland Police and emergency services attended the scene. The Forensic Crash Unit has commenced a full investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

Emergency Response

Queensland emergency services attended the scene following the crash. The 17-year-old female passenger in critical condition was transported to Mount Isa Hospital. The two remaining injured passengers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is leading the investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Initial information indicates the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway. The investigation is ongoing.
