What happened

Incident Overview

On Friday, 8 August 2025, an 18-year-old man died following a single-vehicle crash on the Peak Downs Highway in Moranbah, rural north Queensland. The silver Toyota HiLux left the road and struck a power pole, with the passenger pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services attended immediately and found the driver with minor injuries. The passenger, critically injured, could not be revived despite emergency response efforts.

Emergency Response

Emergency services attended the scene immediately following the crash. The driver was assessed and transported to Moranbah Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The passenger was found critically injured and could not be revived despite emergency response efforts.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Police allege the Toyota HiLux left the road before striking the power pole. The unit has appealed for any motorists with dashcam or CCTV footage of the Peak Downs Highway at the time of the incident to come forward.
