Multiple-vehicle collision triggers critical incident and major delays on Sydney motorway


Incident Overview
A fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred early Wednesday morning, 24 July 2025, on the M4 Motorway in Parramatta, Western Sydney. The crash involved a motorcyclist who was thrown onto the road and subsequently struck by multiple vehicles, including a police car.

  • NSW Police marked vehicle (final impact)

Injuries/Fatalities

  • Deceased: Male motorcyclist, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, died in hospital after being struck multiple times
  • Uninjured: Drivers of Kia, Toyota, and Police vehicle were not physically injured

Crash Description
The crash began when a small scooter travelling eastbound collided with a white Kia sedan changing lanes. The rider was thrown onto the road and then struck by a Toyota sedan and a Ford utility. A marked police vehicle—unrelated to the crash and not using lights or sirens—also collided with the rider. CPR was performed by officers at the scene until paramedics arrived, but the rider was later pronounced deceased at Westmead Hospital.

Road and Traffic Impacts

  • All eastbound (city-bound) lanes of the M4 between Cumberland Highway and Burnett Street were closed for several hours
  • Traffic was heavily congested into Wednesday morning

Investigation
The incident has been declared a critical incident due to the involvement of a police vehicle. The investigation will be subject to independent review by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission. A coroner’s report is being prepared.

Witnesses/Appeals
Police are appealing for:

  • Any motorists with dashcam footage from around 1:45–2:00am on the M4 near Church Street
  • The driver of the Ford utility involved to come forward
