People and Vehicles Involved

  • A Toyota sedan carrying five people collided with a truck.
  • The Toyota’s three passengers were a 64-year-old man, a 27-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman.
  • The sedan driver was 73 and another passenger was 56. The truck driver was 50 and from South Australia’s Mid North.

Injuries and Fatalities

  • The three Toyota passengers died at the scene.
  • The 73-year-old sedan driver sustained life-threatening injuries.
  • The 56-year-old passenger was seriously injured. Both injured occupants were flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital.
  • The truck driver was not physically injured.

Emergency Response

Emergency services cut the injured occupants from the wreckage before they were flown to hospital. Multiple roads were closed while police investigated and later reopened.

Police Investigation

South Australia Police Major Crash investigators were investigating the circumstances of the collision. The truck driver was assisting police with enquiries. 7NEWS referred to Warren Road near Lucky Hit Road, while ABC News identified Martin Hill Road; the source accounts differ on the road name.

Appeal for Information

ABC News reported that police asked witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers. Anyone with information should identify the Birdwood crash when contacting authorities.
