During the forced landing sequence, the aircraft struck a fallen tree. The impact caused the Van’s RV-8 to catch fire, resulting in a post-impact blaze that destroyed the aircraft.

Emergency services responded to the scene where the pilot, the sole occupant, was found with life-threatening burn injuries. He was transported for medical treatment following the accident.

The ATSB confirmed the occurrence and indicated it was assessing available information prior to deciding whether to commence an investigation.
