Circumstances:
A GippsAero GA8-TC-320 Airvan, registered VH-IDM and operated by Whitsunday Tiger Moth Adventures Pty Ltd, experienced a runway excursion during landing at Shute Harbour Airport, Queensland. The aircraft, which was conducting a passenger charter flight, overran the runway and came to rest in a ditch.
While the specific details leading to the runway excursion are yet to be determined, the ATSB is conducting a thorough investigation. This will include interviewing the involved parties, retrieving and reviewing recorded data from the aircraft (such as flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders, if available), and examining other relevant information, such as weather conditions, runway conditions, and aircraft maintenance records.
The aircraft sustained substantial damage as a result of the excursion. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries reported among the occupants.
The ATSB’s investigation aims to identify the contributing factors to this accident and will release a final report upon completion. If any critical safety issues are identified during the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties to facilitate prompt safety actions.
