Circumstances:

On October 7, 2025, an Austflight Drifter light sport aircraft was involved in an accident near Tibooburra Aerodrome, New South Wales.

At approximately 17:30 local time, the aircraft struck a wire during flight and subsequently collided with terrain. The aircraft sustained substantial damage as a result of the impact. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, suffered serious injuries and received medical attention at the scene.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed the occurrence and recorded it as a wirestrike accident involving a recreational aircraft. The event highlights the inherent risks of low-level flying in rural areas where unmarked powerlines or fencing wires can pose serious hazards, particularly for light aircraft with limited structural protection.
