Incident Overview
Police have charged a man following a fatal hit-run at Point Vernon early on Friday, 14 November. Emergency services were called around 4:30am after a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Banksia Street and Esplanade. The pedestrian, a 57-year-old Point Vernon man, died at the scene. Police allege the driver fled without rendering assistance. The involved Hyundai IX35 was located shortly after, and a 20-year-old Urraween man has now been charged with multiple offences.

Police allege the driver failed to remain at the scene and did not render assistance following the impact.

  • Charges include dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, failing to remain and render assistance, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and drugs and weapons offences.
  • The man is scheduled to appear in the Gympie Magistrates Court on 15 November.
  • Police are seeking footage of the silver Hyundai IX35 in the Pialba and Point Vernon areas between 3am and 4:30am.
