Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorbike rider was seriously injured in a traffic crash at Oak Beach yesterday morning, August 18.

Initial investigations indicate at approximately 7.40am, a blue 2012 Yamaha R6 motorbike and a silver 1988 BMW K100 motorbike were traveling north along the Captain Cook Highway when the Yamaha crossed onto the southbound lane and crashed into a guard rail.

The rider, a 31-year-old Port Douglas man, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Cairns Hospital.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Witnesses, particularly anyone who saw the two bikes travelling together along the Captain Cook Highway between Palm Cove and Port Douglas yesterday morning prior to the crash, are urged to contact police.

Anyone with information or relevant vision is also urged to come forward.

Investigations are continuing.
