Incident Overview
Three people were killed and four others injured in a high-speed head-on crash on the Kings Highway at Monga, about an hour south of Canberra. Police say early indications suggest one vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road before colliding with an oncoming car.

Emergency Response

  • Emergency services were called to the crash scene about 5:10pm and attempted resuscitation, but three people died at the scene.
  • Four patients were transported by air ambulance, including a teenage girl taken to Canberra Hospital.
  • Kings Highway was closed while specialist crash investigators examined the scene, reopening about 5am.

Police Investigation
NSW Police said early indications suggest the sedan crossed onto the wrong side of the road before the head-on impact, with the cause under investigation. Specialist crash investigators worked through the night documenting the scene.

Police described the scene as extremely confronting for first responders and members of the public who stopped to help, with multiple families affected by the crash.

Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage of the crash or the moments beforehand—particularly involving the white 2023 Hyundai Ioniq travelling west or the silver Hyundai i20 travelling east—to come forward.
