Introduction
A tragic accident on the Stuart Hwy in the Northern Territory has resulted in the death of a teenager and left four others injured. The crash involved two LandCruisers and occurred on Sunday afternoon.
Incident Overview
The fatal crash happened around 4:20 PM, approximately 20km north of Pine Creek. Two LandCruisers collided, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old male passenger in one of the vehicles.
Victims and Injuries
The 19-year-old man, who was a passenger in one of the LandCruisers, died at the scene. A 16-year-old girl was driving the same vehicle, with an unidentified man as another passenger. In the second vehicle were a 57-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman.
All survivors were taken to the hospital with varying conditions, NT Police reported. The drivers of both vehicles, aged 16 and 57, tested negative for alcohol and drugs.
Investigation
Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner stated that Major Crash detectives have an understanding of how the crash occurred but are seeking witnesses familiar with the occupants of the southbound LandCruiser to provide statements.
Road Closure and Reopening
The Stuart Hwy was closed for a period due to the crash but has since reopened. Motorists were advised to exercise caution as traffic returned to normal.
