Introduction
Two men had a lucky escape in Perth’s east when a freight train plowed through their ute, which had been left stranded on a level crossing following a car crash. The incident, captured on video, shows the dramatic moment the train sliced the ute in half.

Initial Crash and Train Collision
The incident began with a collision between a Ford Ranger ute and a Haval sedan near the intersection of Oakover Road and Railway Parade in Herne Hill around 5 PM on Thursday, August 8th, 2024. The impact left the ute stranded on the level crossing. Shortly after, a CBH Group freight train traveling on the Merredin to Kwinana line smashed into the ute, splitting it in two.

Miraculous Escape
Fortunately, no one was inside the ute at the time of the train collision. The 30-year-old male ute driver and the 38-year-old sedan driver sustained minor injuries in the initial car crash and were taken to St John of God Midland Hospital for treatment.

Ongoing Impact and Investigation
Emergency crews continue to work at the scene, and drivers are advised to avoid the area. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of level crossings and the importance of clearing vehicles from tracks after an accident.
