The crash took place around 12:30 pm on the Great Eastern Highway in Mt Burges, a remote area located approximately 600 kilometers east of Perth.

Major Crash investigators are currently examining the scene of the crash, as well as the vehicles involved, to determine the cause of the collision. They are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward with any information that might be helpful to their investigation.

Community Impact

This crash has had a significant impact on the community and has fueled growing concern about road safety in Western Australia. The state’s annual road toll has now risen to 161, a figure not seen since 2016. The crash also led to the closure of the Great Eastern Highway between Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie, which caused disruptions to travel and transportation in the region.

Other Fatal Crashes Over the Weekend

Sadly, this crash was one of four fatal incidents on Western Australian roads over the weekend. A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his bike left the road and hit a tree in Gidgegannup, and his 16-year-old passenger was critically injured. In Norseman, a 40-year-old female pedestrian was fatally struck by a road train. And in Carlisle, Perth, a 77-year-old woman died in a collision between a Hyundai i30 and a Mitsubishi Challenger.

Contributing Factors

The factors that contributed to the crash on the Great Eastern Highway are still being investigated. Given the high number of fatalities over the weekend, authorities are likely examining factors such as speed, driver fatigue, distraction, and the condition of the roads and vehicles involved in all of the incidents.
