A 30-year-old man is facing 12 charges following a dangerous incident in Mandurah, south of Perth, where he allegedly drove a stolen car into oncoming traffic, causing multiple crashes.
Details of the Mandurah Incident
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, September 3rd, 2024. Police allege the accused drove a stolen grey Holden Commodore through Greenfields to Mandurah. Around 7:45 pm, he steered the vehicle onto the wrong side of Mandurah Road, forcing other drivers to crash as they tried to avoid a head-on collision. Thankfully, no one was injured.
The Holden continued through Dudley Park before stopping outside a home in Coodanup, the same suburb where the car had allegedly been stolen earlier. The driver and four passengers, including two women and two children under six, exited the vehicle. One of the women attempted to drive away but was quickly apprehended by police. The male driver was later found hiding in a bin outside a home on Tankerton Drive.
Charges and Arrests
The 30-year-old man has been charged with 12 offenses, including stealing a motor vehicle, reckless driving, burglary, failing to stop, and reckless driving to escape pursuit by police. He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
A 32-year-old Coodanup woman was also charged with two counts of stealing a motor vehicle and will face Mandurah Magistrates Court on September 27th. The second woman and the children were found at the home but were not charged.
