Incident Overview

On October 14, 2024, Elise Hodder tragically lost her life after being struck by a car in a Kooyong car park in Melbourne’s east. The 24-year-old was attending a party when the incident occurred early Sunday morning. The alleged driver, 23-year-old Connor Mathiasson, was intoxicated and unlicensed at the time of the crash, according to police reports.

Details of the Kooyong Car Park Crash

Police arrived at the scene following reports of a noisy party at Sir Zelman Cowen Park and witnessed the tragic event. Mathiasson allegedly attempted to reverse out of the car park and struck a group of pedestrians, tragically pinning Elise under the vehicle. She died at the scene. Another pedestrian suffered serious injuries and required surgery, while a third person was uninjured.

Tributes to Elise Hodder

Elise’s family described her as a “beautiful soul” whose “radiance touched everybody.” The young model had recently featured in six pages of the August edition of Vanguard Magazine. Her modelling agency, FiveTwenty Model Management, expressed deep sadness over her passing, remembering her as a “delight to work with” and extending condolences to her family.

Investigation and Court Proceedings

Connor Mathiasson is facing multiple charges, including culpable driving causing death, negligently causing serious injury, and driving without a licence. A preliminary breath test indicated he had a blood alcohol level of 0.178 and cannabis in his system. The prosecution is opposing bail, citing concerns for public safety. A decision on bail is expected on Tuesday.
