Investigation
WA Police allege:

  • Chun Lai Yuen was driving at 96 km/h in a 40 km/h zone
  • The impact launched Caitlyn four metres into the air, with dashcam and mobile footage showing her somersaulting twice before landing on the bonnet
  • Mr Yuen later braked sharply, causing her to fall to the ground
  • He allegedly removed and disposed of an SD card from his dashcam after the crash

Mr Yuen appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on July 16, 2025, where police opposed bail due to flight risk concerns and allegations of attempted evidence destruction. He was granted bail with a $20,000 surety and strict conditions, including surrendering his passport, not leaving WA, reporting to police twice weekly, and not contacting witnesses.

Community Impact
The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concern over the dangers of unsanctioned car meets in WA. The “Mondaymeets” event was under police monitoring earlier in the evening, with one car impounded before the crash. Police Commissioner Col Blanch vowed stronger enforcement moving forward.

Friends of Caitlyn described her survival as a “miracle” and have been overwhelmed by public support through a GoFundMe fundraiser.

Witnesses/Appeals
WA Police continue to appeal for dashcam or mobile phone footage and eyewitness accounts from the Camfield Drive area between 9:30–10:00 pm on July 14, 2025:
