Incident Overview

A 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a head-on collision in Baldivis, Perth, allegedly involving a driver who was fleeing from police. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, December 29, 2024, and has resulted in serious injuries and charges being laid against the driver.

Location and Time

The incident began around 6:00 pm on Duckpond Road in Baldivis, Perth. The crash itself occurred on Mundijong Road, after the driver turned right from Duckpond Road.

Vehicles Involved

The crash involved two vehicles: a Ford Falcon and a white Mitsubishi Utility.

Incident Description

Police allege that the driver of the Ford Falcon sped away from officers when they attempted a routine traffic stop on Duckpond Road. The driver then turned right onto Mundijong Road, where the Ford Falcon collided head-on with the Mitsubishi Utility.

Injuries

A 10-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Ford Falcon sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The 29-year-old male driver of the Ford Falcon and a 32-year-old female passenger were also injured and taken to Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital, respectively. Another passenger in the Ford Falcon, an eight-year-old boy, was not injured. The 60-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi Utility was also injured and taken to Rockingham Hospital.

Emergency Response

Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and a rescue helicopter, attended the scene. The critically injured 10-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital.

Investigation and Charges

Western Australia Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The 29-year-old driver of the Ford Falcon, from Redcliffe, has been charged with reckless driving to escape police, dangerous driving, no authority to drive, and using an unlicensed vehicle.

Court Appearance

The driver of the Ford Falcon is scheduled to appear in Rockingham Magistrates Court on Monday, December 30, 2024.
