A bakery owner was tragically killed in a collision with a food delivery truck at the intersection of Bulleen Road and Manningham Road in Bulleen, Melbourne. Her best friend, who was a passenger in the van, is currently fighting for her life in critical condition.

Crash Overview
The fatal crash occurred around 5:40 AM on Monday, August 5th, 2024. The bakery owner was driving along Bulleen Road and had a green light as she entered the Manningham Road intersection when her van was struck by a truck traveling in the opposite direction. Police believe the truck driver ran a red light.

Fatality, Injuries, and Rescue
The bakery owner tragically died at the scene of the crash. Her best friend, a 63-year-old woman, was pulled from the wreckage by a witness and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver, a 28-year-old man from Wollert, was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including the possibility of speeding and impairment from drugs or alcohol on the part of the truck driver. Detective Sergeant Stephen Hill noted recent road works in the area may have contributed to confusion but emphasized the importance of driver attention and adherence to traffic signals.

The bakery owner was a beloved member of the community and co-owner of a bakery in Heidelberg West, which was closed on Monday following the tragic news. Her daughter described her as a “sweet” and “lovely woman” who was always willing to help others. The loss has deeply affected the local community.
