On October 8, 2022, a tragic car accident occurred on the Monaro Highway near Lanyon Drive. The incident involved a car carrying four teenagers – two boys and two girls. The 16-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to a devastating crash that claimed the lives of the two girls.

The two boys fled the scene in an Uber.

The 16-year-old driver was subsequently charged and jailed for two years for culpable driving causing death and failing to render assistance. A coronial inquest into the incident was suspended until after the criminal proceedings concluded.
